First of all, lets talk about the elephant in the room i.e. “What are transferable skills?”

As the name suggest, skills which can be easily transferred. They are skills that you learn in one job or setting that can be used in other jobs or settings.

Why Are Transferable Skills Important in the Canadian Job Market?

Transferable skills are crucial in the Canadian job market because they demonstrate that you have the skills and abilities necessary to succeed in a variety of roles. Bridge jobs, that we talked about in the last article, are your way to acquire these skills.

Employers are often looking for candidates who can adapt to new situations and have a range of skills that can be applied to different contexts. By highlighting your transferable skills, you can show employers that you have the foundation to succeed in a new role or industry, even if you don’t have specific experience in that field.

Are transferable skills same as soft skills?

Soft skills are transferable skills but not vice versa. For example, technical skills like computer proficiency, data analysis, and project management are transferable skills but not soft skills.

Some common examples of transferable skills include:

  1. Communication: The ability to effectively communicate ideas and information to others.

Remember, we all have some kind of transferable skills, be it as simple as attention to detail or as complex as leadership, just take a moment and think hard about them. Land a high paying job using these skills in your resume.
